A Visit To The Tooth Doctor

dental xray

We had a bit of an unexpected visit to the dentist today.
My daughter had been complaining that one of her molars was giving her a bit of pain and since she has been loosing teeth I thought that it probably was just coming loose. That was until she showed me the lump that had mysteriously grown on the side of her gums! It definitely wasn't a loose tooth anymore and warranted a visit to the tooth doctor :)

They squeezed us in for a quick visit this afternoon to see what was happening inside her mouth and I had packed along my knitting thinking that I might get a few minutes to finish up the last minute work on my son's birthday gloves but no such luck. She had been all confident about sitting in the dentist chair until the assistant actually came to get her *grin*. Thankfully they were totally fine with me squeezing into the little exam room so that I could stand there and smile at her so she didn't get scared.

She was such a trooper though! She smiled and chatted and even when they had to put those oversized xray slides into her mouth which are uncomfortable for even an adult sized mouth, she kept smiling :)

It ends up that my little girl has a very ugly cavity inside her molar which has become infected and had spread to a bit of her gums :( So we came home with a bottle of pink bubble gum flavored medicine to treat the 'sugar bug' infection and a date with the dentist on Valentine's day. Her big brother found it mildly amusing that she was going to have her teeth worked on on such a happy day but that just means we'll have to have our party a day early!

I just hope that she will come out smiling on her next visit. I remember as a child being so scared and unfortunately our dentist wasn't very child friendly but the fellow we go to now is a wonderfully gentle older fellow and I think that he will know just how to keep her from becoming worried... plus he has an awful big drawer full of toys *grin*.

Hugs,
Rosina

My Ella is going to the dentist for the first time on V-day. She's been complaining of her front teeth hurting. I'm sure they will want to do x-ray. I just hope it's nothing serious. Our dentist is quite young, so hopefully he will be good with kids (he's good with me :) )

So sorry to hear about your daughter's cavity! What a brave soul to smile her way through the exam! The dentist is my least favorite place to visit! Good idea to celebrate Val. Day early!

She smiled all the way through her dental appointment. Even I find that surprising. It's also a good thing that they squeezed you through so that you were able to find out what caused her tooth pain and find the proper medicine for it.
