On The Cutting Table ~ Party Favor Bags

Snack bags

It's so hard to work on Sunday when you just feel like lounging around *grin*. I can't rest just yet though. I've got 30 snack bags cut, pinned and ready to finish for orders that need to hit the post office tomorrow :)

Snack Bags

One package is a mix of 24 snack bags that will be used as birthday party favor bags instead of the usual plastic ones! This is my 3rd party order and I am thrilled to help families go 'plastic free'.

So I was thinking that perhaps I should try and find some birthday themed fabrics that would be more suitable for party favor bags but I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to pick. There's cupcakes patterns, polka dots, perhaps pirate fabric for boys or just colorful solids....

What do you think?? What would you choose as a birthday party fabric? I would love to hear some suggestions and even links to photos of your favorite birthday type fabrics :) Can't wait to see what you all like!

Because Not All Sandwiches Are Created Equal

Somewhere between Tuesday and now nearly Friday I lost a day *grin*. I can't believe how fast this week has gone by and that we're in April already!! I've been a busy little bee sewing up my secret Easter gifts for the kids and filling orders for my reusable cloth lunch items.

We've been using my snack and sandwich bags for a couple of years now and absolutely love them. Especially that we're no longer storing our food inside plastic. No plastic, PVC or nylon liners for us. Just unbleached cotton and recently I've started adding certified organic bags to our stash to but once in a while we've got a sandwich or a 'man'wich as I like to call them that just won't fit comfortably inside!

My husband is a big culprit of this and maybe your husband is the same. He LOVES to stack like half a roast between two slices of bread and call it a sandwich *grin*. Myself on the other hand, I love to load up on more of the veggies like sprouts, tomatoes, onion and such and by the time we're done quite often they're fairly large sandwiches. They'll go into the cloth bags and then put up a fuss on the way out so you end up squishing your sammy!

So I've come up with a solution... a sandwich wrap! It works beautifully :) You just place your man sized sandwich on it and fold up the cloth around it. Plus when it's time to eat it you can use it as your place mat to eat over and a napkin to wipe up your hands and perhaps your face with after *grin*.

My goal.... to save the world one cloth sandwich wrap at a time!

Sneak Peak ~ New Organic Sandwich Bags

New Organic Sandwich BagsNew Organic Sandwich Bags

They're here!! The first batch of certified organic fabric has arrived and I just finished sewing up one snack and one sandwich bag out of each of the four fabrics. I just love the fun polka dots, mushrooms & flower prints!

I shared in a previous post some of the requirements that need to be met in order to be certified organic and am super excited about getting these and being able to share them with you to. I'm working on getting all of the photos together for them and will start to list them in the shop in a couple of days, so make sure you check back for them!

Polka Dots of Happiness

Dots of Happiness Treasury

Doesn't this treasury just scream 'Love Me'! *grin*.

I just got an email letting me know that my polka dot market bag had been included in this awesome mix of red. With Valentine's Day right around the corner this seems to be the perfect color. I love it, so bright and cheery :)

If you are viewing this and the treasury has now expired you can click the photo for a larger view of it and all of the shop names are there so you can search on Etsy to find any of these great items!

New Certified Organic Fabrics

Organic fabrics

I can't contain my excitement anymore and I've just got to spill the beans *grin*.

I just finished splurging and purchased some fabulous *certified* organic cotton fabrics. Did you know that cotton is one of the most chemically treated crops grown and uses approximately11% of all pesticides and 25% of the insecticides used worldwide each year? Yikes!

Thankfully certified organic cotton increases soil fertility and biodiversity, reduces water pollution, and has a low impact on the environment making it good for the Earth.

organic fabrics

I am really looking forward to their arrival and making my cloth snack and sandwich bags with them :)

All of the fabrics I purchased meet either the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) for farming methods benefiting farmers, processors, the earth and consumers by using natural, non toxic means to control crops from seed to harvesting, milling to finishing

OR

SKAL certification which tests and verifies international organic farming standards and consists of visits to farms, processing and importing units, but also examination of soil, crop or tissue samples and administrative assessments. When the production process fully meets the requirements, certification can take place.

So exciting! Soon everyone will have the choice as to which materials they want their bags made with :)

I'm Featured in an Etsy Treasury!

How super exciting *grin*. My 'Magenta African Daisy' photograph (top right hand corner) was chosen to be included in a treasury that Mistleflowerstudio put together. This wonderfully vibrant and spring like treasury is so uplifting when I think of all the white snow we are covered in still :)
