Sledding

Sledding

Oh my goodness did we have a hoot today *grin*.
The icy hard snow provided some super slick and zippy conditions for sledding! So much better than fresh snow and boy did the kids fly :)

The Sledding Hill

Of course where else would we sled but on our own hill LOL. My mom just loves to name all of the trails and roads heading up the mountain behind her house :)

Sledding

It was a little to scary for me to watch my youngest one go down alone so big brother made a sledding train and they went down together. You should have seen their faces! One was laughing so hard he looked like he was crying and the other screamed with sheer terror as they rocketed towards the end of the hill...

The Brakes

and with good reason!
There isn't far to go at the bottom before you bounce right over the bank and into the creek and field several meters below. This is why I didn't want the little guy going alone and with his brother behind him he could act as the brakes so that they stopped in time *grin*.

We must have spent a good couple of hours out there as they raced up and down the hill and my little girl skated on the ice puddles around the road. She only took one trip down the hill and that was enough excitement for her day. I don't blame her :)

Hope you had a wonderful day to!

Outdoor Seating

Falling Behind

Well it looks like the snow is here to stay for a while :)
Our driveway took a slushy turn the other day when the weather warmed up temporarily so thankfully my dad was able to plow it with his backhoe and make getting in and out to the main road much easier! It also made getting around with our sleds quicker to. My poor little guy was getting all tuckered out plodding through the snow *grin*.

Outdoor Seating

During the summer months we purchased a new sofa and for fun we put our old one out on the front porch so that we would have a place to plunk down and rest on. It's a little ratty but our porch is completely hidden behind prickly juniper bushes so it's not visible to any passersby and no one would ever know it was there.

Well... it's still there *grin*. A little crunchier now that it has frozen solid but still being enjoyed just as much as a place for the children to catch their breath on after running and sledding or as a hiding place to avoid wayward snowballs :) I have a feeling that it will probably be there until spring now LOL.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend to :)

Winter Is Upon Us

...smiling.
Winter has finally arrived with gusto and the sledding, snowball throwing and snowmen building marathon has begun. My days will now be filled with squeals of delight each morning as the height of the snow is re-measured, breakfasts gobbled and children being stuffed into snow suits multiple times :)

I love this time of year most of all.

Sugar Plum Fairies

Well the kids are all tucked into their beds and they are definitely dreaming of sugar plum fairies dancing in their heads :) The gingerbread house is finished, the presents are wrapped and the secret Santa gift is hidden away in the china cabinet for tomorrow night. We follow my dad's European tradition of opening our presents on Christmas eve just like I did when I was a little girl, but my husband always opened his Christmas morning so we always have one special gift for all 3 of them that I tuck underneath the tree after they are fast asleep :) And the snow is still falling here so we are going to have a very white Christmas this year. This evening we went sledding after dark out behind our home and the kids had a blast! We had a spotlight set up for light and they climbed up the hill for a good 2 hours at least. We were all worn out after that. LOL.
