Happy Belated Canada Day

Our home away from home

Our Canada Day weekend was spent camping :)

Hubby packed up our trailer along with the two boys and headed out to the lake to meet his parents while L and I stayed home so that we could attend my sister's baby shower on Saturday and then join them the following day. When we arrived at the lake on Sunday they had everything set up.

Ahoy

The boat had been carried down to the waters edge and they had been enjoying rowing it around when the water was calm enough. It got quite windy at times creating to many waves so in between the rain showers and windy bouts they would jump into their life jackets and dash in and out :)

Railway Ties

The kids had fun hunting for old train rails and spikes that they played with while we were there. In the past the logging companies used to bring their logs right down to the lake where they were dumped into the water. In fact quite often when we travel this way we will see the loaded trains full of logs being shuttled in and out of the forest as they still move them by train today.

Sparklers

Of course we couldn't have a Canada Day without any sort of fireworks! To our delight the neighbors let off a few...

Enjoying the show

and the kids had fun waving gigantic sparklers around in the dark :)

Dusk

I hope you all had a great Canada Day and to all my lovely American friends I wish you a wonderful Independence Day tomorrow!

Happy Canada Day

canada day

Happy Canada Day!!!

canada day

We headed down to the village this morning just before lunch to take in the sights and sounds of the Canada Day parade :)

canada day

The kids love to see all of the fire engines, police cars and ambulances that are all decorated up and blaring their horns *grin*.

canada day

They even tossed candy this year which got all of the children around into a frenzy of collecting :) I ran into an old friend which was nice and we got to catch up on what was happening in each others lives and we even enjoyed a hotdog which is a real treat as I very rarely buy them and wouldn't you know it only one of my three actually ate one LOL.

After the parade was over we headed home for lunch as I had made a special Canada Day cake (up in the first photo) which was so yummy and strawberry spritzer drinks to go along with it. Isn't the little strawberry garnish so cute :) Seems like every day is a party around here these days *grin*.

Hope you all had a wonderful day celebrating and to my American friends I wish you all a happy Fourth of July this weekend!!

Canada Day Pins

canada day pins

Only a couple more days until Canada Day so I thought it would be fun to do some Canada Day crafts and make some beaded flag pins :)

canada day pins

We got everything we needed at the dollar store for $2.00! Yipee for cheap craft supplies *grin*. All you need is some 1 & 2 inch safety pins and some seed beads to get started.

canada day pins

We filled individual safety pins with sequences of beads...

to be hung vertically from one main safety pin to create the Canadian flag :)

Don't forget the beaver! I just love how cute this little guy is :) If your little one has good hand eye coordination and you feel they can manage to place beads on a safety pin without pricking their fingers then this is a great activity for learning colors and counting together :) My four year old LOVED it. He actually made this beaver all by himself. All I did was tell him what colors and how many of each to put on the pins and he stuck them together. It's so much fun to see how excited and proud of his work he was when he finished *grin*.

Happy Canada Day

Canada Day

Happy belated Canada Day!!!

quinsam

This year we decided to skip town and head out to the Quinsam Campground for Canada Day :) I'm just loving all of the great local campsites nearby that teleport you directly into nature. Not just those seaside campgrounds with open fields and cramped quarters amongst the 1oo's....

Quinsam

No, these spots are in densely forested areas with plenty of space between you and your neighbors and plenty of critters to spy on *grin*. And it just happened that this one was a huckleberry goldmine! As soon as the kids spotted them they were running with bowls picking them for their dessert, not to many actually lasted until dessert time though LOL.

Canada Day

On Canada Day we headed into town to take in some of the festivities. There were tons of vendors along the foreshore with crafts, food, face painting and more.

Canada Day Parade

After scorching ourselves in the sun for a couple of hours we found some shade by the fisherman's wharf and waited for the parade to start : )

It's Smokey the Bear! Remember 'Only YOU can prevent forest fires'

These girls were hilarious in their bumper boats! I think they were part of the swimming pool float. You can see more photos of the parade HERE.

O Canada

Hope everyone had a great Canada Day!
