right now, I AM

Love me

...chuckling to myself as I go through my latest photos :)

Only in a logging community would it be acceptable fashion wear to strap on a pair of cork boots and those trademark wool socks with the lovely red stripe and head out into public *grin*.

I remember as a little girl balling up those exact same socks for my dad on laundry days. I don't think that he even owned a pair of regular cotton socks. It was wool ALL the time and not just in the winter. He even wore them in his sandals in the dead heat of summer LOL. So when my mom joined us for a walk down to the mail with the above footwear all I could do was have a good laugh and see that those good old socks were still being put to good use :)

Welcome To Our Garden

garden boots

Remember those cute gumboots we were planting flowers in?
I thought that the perfect place to put them would be to hang them right on our garden gate *grin*. Don't they look super cute there? A perfect flower filled welcome to our vegetable garden and the kids just love seeing them every time we go to water or plant. Plus this way the slugs will never be able to eat the blooms either!

Hubby returned home this morning after 2 weeks away for work and we are overjoyed to have him with us again. So if I'm just a little bit scarce the next couple of days you'll know what has happened to me :)

** Just wanted to add a note and say hello to all of you visiting my blog today :) I've had quite a few emails about how I hung the boots and if they have any drainage so I thought this would be a great place to put some more info in case you would like to know to :)

There are drainage holes in each of the boots so that excess water can escape after watering. I used my husband's power drill and drilled four or five 1/4 inch holes through the soles and then for hanging the boots I drilled another hole on the backside of the boot up at the top and hung them on the fence using those little cup hooks you can get anywhere they sell screws :) If you can't find the little cup hooks you could also use a regular nail and just hammer the end crooked so it turns up a bit on the end to prevent the boot from slipping off. Have fun making some! **

Have a fabulous week everyone!

Planting Flower Boots

flower boots

I've had a stash of the kids outgrown rubber boots in the closet since last spring as I wanted to do something fun with them. Each pair outgrown and no good for donating to the good will because every single one of them was either cracked somewhere up the sides or had holes in the soles. Can you say hard on their shoes?!

So the last time we were in the city we stopped at one of the nurseries and purchased some colorful bedding plants to plant in them :) Using a mix of potting soil and horse manure they filled up each of the boots right to the tip of the toes.

In each one we could only fit 2 or sometimes 3 flowers depending on how little the top of the boot was :)

They are so excited to see the marigolds, pansies, and snapdragons bloom. I think we're going to put them in the vegetable garden at the ends of the rows. I just hope that the slugs don't get a hold of them! All this wet weather is a making it a haven for the slimy creatures. Maybe we should get some Muskovy ducks again... they LOVE to eat slugs *grin*.
