A Swap Just For Mama

Not very often do I get a chance to have a surprise from a complete stranger arrive in my mailbox full of amazing goodies just for me. So when I heard about the blog swap that Sweet Potato Claire was hosting I thought it would be so much fun to send a gift to a very deserving Mama somewhere here in Canada and to have a little something come back to me as well.

I couldn't have been more blessed by the package that I received today. As I opened it a wonderful aroma of lemon grass wafted out and inside the little polka dot pouch were three silver tins of healing salves and lotions. A lemongrass body butter, green tea healing hand salve and a lip balm. Each one made with organic oils and essential oils. Oh my how I needed the healing hand salve for my winter hands!

Fingerless Gloves

That wasn't all though. There was one more little package and inside were a wooly and warm pair of fingerless gloves. You know I have knitted similar gloves for my daughter, cousins and even my mom but I have never made any for myself so they are going to be well loved and used :)

Thank you so much Kim!! I am going to use every last drop of cream you gave me. You have truly blessed me with your thoughtful gift.

Being that no one knows who they are going to get their goodies from I think it is safe to share on here what I made for the lucky Mama that I got.

Apron

I have been a busy little girl sewing her a flirty apron...

and one of my favorite burlap market bags with a little coin pouch. I sure hope she likes it :)

Heard of any handmade swaps lately? I would love to know about them.

Her First Apron

Her first apron

As I was tidying in the kitchen this morning my little girl kept running by with pieces of fabric from my scrap bag showing me quickly and asking my opinion on how I liked the owls, or did I think the trees were a pretty shade of blue and to express her sheer excitement that she had found two pieces of matching gingham large enough for her project :) It's not often to find larger pieces in the scrap bag so this was a major find for her but she still wasn't revealing just what it was she was making *grin*.
I so wanted to go and peak in the doorway to her room and see just what it was she was up to but I didn't want to spoil her fun so I waited and watched her slip past with more fabric as she gathered and returned ones that didn't fit her needs :)

Her first apron

After a while she didn't return again and I could hear her humming softly in her room. When she finally reappeared she was grinning from ear to ear as she walked proudly out with her brand new apron that she had made for herself :) And what a magnificent job she did!

She had found strips of apple fabric long enough to be the sash and there were two large pockets along the bottom which she explained were for her recipe cards and her measuring spoons and she was ready to bake.

I just love her creativity. She had a vision of what a special apron of her very own would look like and she snipped and stitched until she had created it just like she had imagined :) I can't wait to do more projects together with her. I think that she may be just about ready to start learning how to use my sewing machine and use a real pattern! Oh are we going to have some fun *grin*.

The 'Hostess with the Mostess'

I couldn't resist doing another apron for the shop :) I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the red Michael Miller polka dot fabric I had stashed away but it made a great accent to this red apron along with one of my rhinestone Rosy Posy brooches. If anything I'm going to have LOTS of them for Christmas presents if I can't sell any *grin*

I know my mom is already eyeing them up so perhaps she'll get a surprise for Mother's Day!

Working on a new apron

After making an apron for my apron swap partner last month I just had to whip up another one *grin*. The bright pink is such a great accent color to go along with the blues and I've changed up the bottom on this one and created a fun scalloped edge that just flows when you wear it :)

All I've got left is to work on my little Rosy Posy embellishments to be attached and it'll be ready for the shop.... or me! LOL. I don't really want to part with it, but then again I've got some great polka dot fabric just begging to be used so maybe I'll whip up one in red *grin*.

Finished Apron for Swap

I just wanted to share my finished apron for the Amy Butler apron swap that I joined in. We were allowed to pick out any apron pattern we liked but it had to be Amy B. fabric :) I sure hope my secret swap partner likes it! I had a lot of fun making it for her and am very happy with how it turned out. I finished all of the seams with french seams so that it looked just as great on the backside as it did on the front *grin*.

I had to have a little fun and try it out of course *grin*
Yup... fun and flirty, yet functional. LOL.
