I took the plunge and cast on my very first sweater :)
I'll admit I'm a little scared now that I have 288 stitches on my circular needle and the few rows that I've finished are like a drop in the bucket! *grin*.
I picked the Cowboy Butterfly Astronaut vest because I just couldn't resist the adorable ruffled bottom and sleeves and I'm using a beautifully soft acrylic this time called Marble Chunky by James C. Brett. My daughter plays hard and I wanted to have something that I could toss into the washing machine fairly regularly if need be and this should wash up beautifully without to much fuss :)
The photo is of the ruffled hem and then in a couple more rows it switches to the main color which L picked out and it's a really deep marbled purple. It's going to look quite striking against the soft pink ruffle.
I'm still reading The Happiness Project but have put it aside temporarily as I reread the Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder with my daughter. Oh how I love this book and am enjoying it tremendously :)
Looking forward to seeing what you're knitting this week!
Hugs,
Rosina
That sweater is going to look beautiful, I look forward to seeing its progression. And I love the Laura books too! I've already read the whole series to my boys and will continue reading them, especially as Heidi grows up. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe're sweater buddies! We can do it, right? Sweet little pattern!
ReplyDeleteI was so close to bringing that book home from the library this week! Figured I'd better muscle through more of my pile before I get more. Enjoy!
oh, i was reading this book last week. i love the color version, it is stunning!
ReplyDeletei'm about to cast on my first proper sweater too... so nervous. good luck on yours :)
What a cute pattern! I just used some Marble Chunky on a couple of scarves and I really liked knitting with it. I am looking forward to the Little House Series with my girls. We read the Little House Christmas Treasury over the holidays and the girls loved it.
ReplyDeleteOk first, I love the yarn color. Second, I ADORE the sweater pattern!! I can't wait to see it finished and on!!
ReplyDeleteA pink sweater in that pattern is going to be beautiful. Good luck knitting your first sweater.
ReplyDeleteWarmly,
Tracey
Isn't the Marble such pretty yarn? The pink is gorgeous. I haven't used the chunky size before only the DK. I'm glad I'm not the only knitter out there that actually knits what the wearer wants/needs regardless of the yarn contents.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait till Ella is old enough to get into the Little House books. I loved them, I hope she does too.
Paula
Yummy yarn! I know how you feel with all those stitches...my shawl is growing to daunting proportions!
ReplyDeleteGreat color for that sweater, and I love the name!
ReplyDeleteWe have been working our way through all of the Little House books, and then we misplaced These Happy Golden Years right in the middle of it.
We moved on to Anne of Green Gables, but I hope we find that Laura book again.
Can't wait to see more of the sweater, the colors look really pretty.
ReplyDeleteI've seen this pattern around on Rav. It is great and I look forward to seeing your FO. It will be done before you know it. I too love those books. This is the second YA I've read today where they are mentioned!
ReplyDeleteI've made that vest before! In acrylic too! I never got around to putting buttons on it before my daughter got too big for it, so I don't recommend that you do that! It's a really fast, fun project though.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved that pattern, although I haven't knit it myself. Can't wait to see your progress.
ReplyDeleteAdorable sweater, I love the colors you chose! And such a great book!!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cute pattern! Congrats on your first sweater--you'll do great!
ReplyDeleteThose ruffles adorable! Little House in the Big Woods seems like so much fun to read with a little one. I just can not wait.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous pattern. Thanks for sharing. I have a little one that would love a ruffle on her sweater.
ReplyDeleteAnd we have loved all the Little House on the Pairie books. I was just thinking about when I could read them to my littlest. Hopefully soon.
Blessings, Elizabeth
I reread the entire Little House series last year. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to enjoy it.
ReplyDeletegood luck with your project :) it will go faster once you have few more rows done :)
ReplyDeletenice yarn :)
How fun to start a sweater for the first time. It's so nice to see the progress once you get started.
ReplyDeleteAlmost forgot. I started the new Jodi Piccoult book today and so far so good I'm already on page 99.
